Café du Monde

Long line, but worth the wait (sometimes)

Café du Monde's famous beignets and coffee are worth waiting in line for, but only if they're enjoyed fresh

Love it for its...

Extremely affordable prices (3 beignets will run you around $3)

Piping hot, fresh, beignets and Café Au Lait

Long-standing history in the French Market (it was established in 1862)

24/7 hours

But it's also...

Host to a notoriously long line if you want to sit down, but the to go line around back is generally a bit shorter/faster

A bit inconsistent - the first time we visited, the beignets were not nearly as fresh as the second time around when they were piping hot

Not nearly as tasty if you don't eat them immediately

Cash only so don't forget to swing by the ATM before you head over

Pretty touristy

Final call

Café du Monde is definitely worth stopping by for the quintessential New Orleans beignet, but if you're pressed for time or just simply not interested in waiting, Café Beignet down the street also has wonderful beignets
